Abbington of Shady Lawn
Complete Pedigree
The foundation broodmare for Kate
and Darwin Morse
Photo, circa 1960, by Al Drowne
Sired by Plains King out of Gadabbott,
1949 National Champion Mare
Abbington of Shady Lawn was purchased as a riding mount for Darwin Morse
so he could join Kate who was riding their first Morgan, Windcrest Cover
Girl. However, before the purchase could be concluded, "Abby" produced
a nice young stud colt and both arrived at the farm in the summer of 1954.
That foal was Windcrest Ben Davis by Upwey
Ben Don. And thus began the breeding program of Green Meads Farm. "Davey"
was soon followed by his full siblings, Green
Meads Marauder and Green Meads Princess.
All Kate and Darwin's grandchildren began their riding careers on "Abby".
