Irish Jaunting Cart - KWM from Maude Adams (horse not original) |
Maude Adams ~ 1872–1953
You can read more about Maude Adams here.
John Wayne made this cart famous in the 1952 movie:
'The
Quiet Man.'
The horse is wired to the shafts with old picture wire exactly as found. It is not original and is slightly smaller than it should be to match the exact size of the cart. It is a toy horse as old s the cart. It has some harness parts on it and appears to be covered in some very fine fur. The Tail is probably rabbit fur.
The cart is striped with black paint over a yellow ochre paint. The seat unfold to make foot rests so the passengers would sit facing side ways. The driver could sit on top and put his feet on the foot rest between the lamps. There is the remains of old glue where a driver would have been seated.
The seats have removable cushions. One cushion is missing. The lamps are made of wood with paper lenses. The whip socket probably held a small whip when this toy was new. The wheels have brass hubs and the axle is attached with curved metal strips.
There are no broken parts or pieces.
