Windcrest Ben Davis arrived at Green Meads Farm by his dam's side in 1954 and was the first Morgan trained by Darwin Morse. Credit also goes to Mr. Rod Leavitt who also played a part in "Davey's" education. As a young horse he developed a growth on his neck which, once removed, left a scar and as a result he was only shown once. However, his full brother Green Meads Marauder was shown extensively in New England and attracted many breeders to the farm who subsequently found it difficult to decide which of the full brothers to breed to. "Davey" was the exemplary kind and intelligent stallion who would allow school children to crawl around his legs in the stall and deliver the most perfect trail rides one could ask for. He passed his kind nature and his excellent type and conformation on to 40 fillies and 23 stud colts in his breeding career. The photo above was used frequently in advertisements for Green Meads Farm and can be found on several back covers of The Morgan Horse Magazines of the 60's and 70's.
